Lensology
WhenFrom the beginning of the semester until the end, "lensology" was the common theme.

What"Lensology" is a term coined by Colleen to describe the filters people of different backgrounds will look through.
|
WhyOne example of our work was a class set of equality mantras, aligned with everything else we did, these showed our understanding of others situations as well as ours.

Critical Theory
We looked at some specific lenses, categorized under "Critical Theory Lenses", a few examples of these would be a Feminist lens, Critical Race Theory, and a Postcolonial lens. We chose one of these lenses at the end of the year and styled our book club essay off of it.

Critical Theory is "a philosophical approach to culture, and especially to literature, that seeks to confront the social, historical, and ideological forces and structures that produce and constrain it." Or, in my own words, to look at something and judge everything that made it what it is. To judge a person critically would be to look at their community, their upbringing, their parent's dogmas', because chances are; that's what made them who they are.
